The Pastor’s Blog – GOD’s PRESENCE

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

Where can we go that God is not there? There is no such place. My friend is looking out over the ocean, and the reality of that truth sinks in. Our world is very big, even though airplanes and internet make it seem smaller. People will soon be traveling to many places, seeing family, vacationing, doing business once again. Yet no matter where they travel, God is already there.

David could not have imagined how big the world really is, but that does not change his assurance that God is with us no matter where we go. If David lived today, he would still say, “We cannot flee from the presence of God!”

This is great news, if we fully understand who God is. Looking at Jesus, we see that God is not angry or vengeful, but loving, forgiving and gracious. This is Good News for us. Even sinful, broken people like us can find mercy and hope in the presence of God. When we submit ourselves to Him we receive love, for “God is love.” If we flee from His presence to try to hide our sin, we will fail. So instead of running from God, why not run to God and be embraced by His love?
