The Pastor’s Blog – VISITORS

These days visitors are rare. Some of you may be feeling quite alone. Any visit is welcome – like this little bunny who came into our yard last week. He wanted to see what was on the other side of the fence and soon found himself trapped in our little yard. But as we watched, he became less concerned about an exit than what there was to eat!

Even though we know a little fellow like that can do great damage to our little yard, we welcomed him. It was fun to watch him run around our yard. We were particularly delighted when he looked in the window of our patio – rising up and wiggling his nose as he looked into our house. What a strange world, he must have thought. So much stuff in there, and nothing living – and nothing to eat!

My little visitor reminded me of visitors who came to people in the past; angels who came with messages to people like Abraham, Mary, Joseph, Peter and Paul. Peter had an angelic visit when he was in prison for telling others about Jesus. What a welcome guest the angel must have been when he was in such isolation.

So will God send visitors to us? When we are feeling isolated and lonely, is there any hope that we too might receive a guest from heaven to cheer us?

Guess what? You already have. The heavenly guest is not an angel, but Jesus Himself. And he does not need to come to you – he never left you! He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5) Others may have to leave because of COVID 19. The doors may be shut to visitors and even family. Your room may seem very quiet, but we are not alone.

If God said He would never leave you or forsake you, know that it is true. Jesus is with you today, tomorrow and for all your tomorrows until you draw your last breath. And if you choose to put your trust in Him today for forgiveness and a new life through His Spirit, then you can be with him forever. That’s an amazing promise.

Thanks, my little bunny friend, for reminding me I am not alone. God is with me – and He is with you as well!
