The Pastor’s Blog – SIMPLE DELIGHTS

This is Muriel Wellar, lover of Jesus and member of our congregation. Muriel is in a senior home, locked down because of COVID 19. Her husband Dale visits, but must communicate through the windows, talking on a phone, blowing kisses back and forth. Despite the isolation and separation, their love is strong – nothing can come between true love!

Maybe this is why the Apostle Paul would write,

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.”

Romans 8:38, NLT

I love this photo, as it shows the delight Muriel felt the day the hairdresser was able to come into her building and after too many weeks she finally got her hair cut and styled. Isn’t it amazing how such simple pleasures can bring such delight to our lives? And watching her husband proudly show off this photo to all who crossed his path, it was clear he also was delighted in this simple gesture of kindness.

Have you noticed that so many people are uptight because of COVID 19? But have you also noticed that simple gestures go a long ways to brighten up their days? A simple “Hello,” or a smile or holding the door for someone, or taking a moment to have a conversation. I wore my mask into a store the other day while many around me chose not to, and the store worker said with genuine appreciation, “Thank you.” Small gestures can go a long way.

Many, many years ago wise Solomon gave this simple advice:

“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.”

Ecclesiastes 3:12, NIV

Since this is God’s word to us, we know it works! A little kindness goes a long ways. Try to see what simple delights you can pass on to someone today!
